Captain
Peter E. Kane is a biologist by profession and is currently teaching
biology at SUNY New Paltz. He is an experienced mariner holding a 50 ton
Masters License for both sail and power vessels. Spending many years on
the waters of the Northeast he is knowledgeable of all the areas fished
- from the Hudson River to Long Island Sound and the waters offshore.
The
Osprey Marine Ltd. is a small company specializing in fishing charters.
Their vessel meets all Coast Guard requirements for safety and is designed
for fishing as well as comfort. They supply all the necessary tackle for
an exciting day on the water and look forward to serving you.
During
the spring they concentrate on fishing for striped bass in the Hudson
River during their spawning run. After June 1st they move to Cedar Island
Marina in Clinton, Ct. and fish the eastern end of Long Island Sound for
striped bass, bluefish and fluke. Custom offshore charters south of Montauk
and Block Island are also available for shark and tuna. It is their primary
goal to offer the customer a safe and enjoyable fishing adventure.
The
Vessel is a 1995 Luhrs Tournament 290 with an overall length of 31'
and a 11' 6" beam. It is an excellent fishing vessel with ample room for
up to six plus the captain. Features include an enclosed helm area, a
head, galley, hot and cold water, heat and air conditioning, tower, and
all the necessary fishing equipment. Furuno 34 mile radar, color CRT fishfinder,
Garmin GPS chartmap, single sideband and vhf radio, Navico autopilot and
cell phone make up the electronics package on board. Powered by twin EFI
350's the vessel can cruise economically at 22 knots with a top speed
of 30 knots. The Luhrs 290 is one of the best designed fishing vessels
for its size and with the Carolina flare and deep V hull it provides for
a comfortable and dry ride.
