BassFan ebay Store Launches New Approach To Tackle Sales

PORTLAND, Ore. – July 2, 2003 – San Jose, Calif.-based ebay, the world's biggest on-line auction company, and BassFan.com, the world's largest fishing web site, have teamed to bring something new to anglers. For the first time ever, anglers will be able to name their own price for fishing products.

The new BassFan ebay Store allows anglers to benefit from ebay's democratic approach to sales, where the buyer helps establish prices via the auction process and ebay's "Buy it Now" feature. This allows anglers to have a say in how much their fishing experience is going to cost.

"I'm extremely excited about the opening of the BassFan eBay Store," said Bob Holden, fishing and hunting category manager for eBay Sports. "BassFan will be able to deliver high-quality and special products to the eBay community, and we hope that the many BassFans out there will take the time to see what ebay has to offer."

"Whether retailers want to admit it or not, ebay already establishes the prices for millions of products and its role in that capacity will only increase," said BassFan CEO Jay Kumar. "We're psyched that ebay is enabling us to bring BassFan's fan-friendly approach to products, and we can't wait to share ebay's benefits with anglers and fishing fans everywhere."

Right now the BassFan ebay Store is in start-up phase, but screaming deals are already available. Eventually the store will feature many more products. "We're going to do a lot more with the store as quickly as we can," Kumar said. "We have no desire to be a Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's. Those companies are excellent at what they do, but we're doing something totally different. We will only be offering what we, the pros and the fans feel are the best products, and we'll be letting bass anglers have a hand in determining what they will or won't pay for them."

eBay is "The World's Online Marketplace." Founded in 1995, eBay created a powerful platform for the sale of goods and services by a passionate community of individuals and businesses. On any given day, millions of items across thousands of categories are offered for sale on eBay. eBay enables trade on a local, national and international basis with customized sites in markets around the world.

BassFan provides the world's only daily coverage of professional fishing. Its website, BassFan.com, receives more traffic than any other fishing website, and because it is independent, BassFan is trusted by consumers more than any other entity in fishing. It is also home to the State Farm-BassFan World Rankings, the only statistical world rankings of professional fishermen.
