FISH AND GAME COMMISSION TO RECEIVE
PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSIDER COHO SALMON RECOVERY STRATEGY
The California Fish and Game Commission will receive public comments
and consider approving the Coho Salmon Recovery Strategy, as modified
in response to comments, at 10 a.m. on Feb. 4, at the City of
Sacramento Council Chambers 730 I Street, 1st Floor.
The Coho Salmon Recovery Strategy provides a blueprint
for the recovery of coho salmon in California, helping to revive
struggling coho populations and restore their habitat. Ultimately,
the implementation of the Recovery Strategy will lead to the removal
of coho salmon from the California Endangered Species List as
well as lead to the restoration of tribal, commercial, and recreational
coho salmon fisheries.
The Recovery Strategy is complex and lengthy, containing
13 chapters in over 700 pages of text encompassing more than 750
recommendations and more than 1,000 recovery tasks. It represents
an unprecedented effort by the Department of Fish and Game, and
other state agencies and stakeholders - which include commercial
and recreational fishing, forestry, agriculture, ranching, water
management, and environmental interests, and also representatives
of tribal, federal and county governments.
