Pro Staff Question - What Steps Can A Manager Do To Further His Clients Pro Bass Career

Charles "The Bass Doctor" Stuart's Answer

Pro Bass Angler Charles "The Bass Doctor" Stuart

Hi Mike!

Glad to see someone is taking an interest in the professional anglers out there.

I wish I had a manager myself!

Truth is, it is a tough business to get financial sponsorship.

Very few anglers get "salary" and those that do, have to commit so much of their free time to working directly with the companies involved, that it leaves barely enough time to go fishing and virtually no time for family or a personal life!

Reflecting On My Professional Bass Fishing Career

As I reflect on my fishing sponsors past and present, I have been fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time.

Being a good fisherman is a plus but being a salesman and having the ability to speak in public to 100 or 5000 people is the key.

I have been in sales for over 30 years.

It was that experience and my British accent that helped me obtain sponsors, some of whom I still have not met after 8 years!

Managers Should Be Thinking Outside The Box When Looking For Sponsors

If I were an agent for a fisherman today, I would look outside the "box" and find companies who are in some way affiliated, but not directly involved with the sport.

New blood is vital for the sports continued growth, so I see other vehicle manufacturers, food chains, clothing companies, cleaning products, personal hygiene producers and more needing to be "in the spotlight" when your man gets on stage.

You and I both know the value in 30 seconds of advertising to a company, when their logo is on a national TV station like ESPN!

So there is my thought process for you and I sincerely wish you luck in your endeavors.

Tight Lines!
