Reese No. 1 For First Time

The top of the State Farm World Rankings changes big-time after the Bassmaster Tour event on Florida's Harris Chain of Lakes, which ended yesterday.

First and foremost, after finishing 8th there, California's Skeet Reese is now the No. 1 angler in the world. This is the first time he's ranked No. 1, and it's the first time an angler from the western U.S. has attained the No. 1 spot.

Another "first" is that Kevin VanDam drops to 3rd due largely to his 98th-place finish at the Harris Chain. This is the first time VanDam has been ranked anything less than 2nd.

Sandwiched between the two is Greg Hackney, who finished 66th at the Harris Chain -- and thus is poised for a fall in the rankings unless he can finish strongly again (it's kill or be killed at the top of the rankings). Similarly, Dean Rojas tanked at Harris (72nd), but also moves up one slot, into 4th: Remember, there can be some lag in the movement in the rankings.

Other notable movement:

Gerald Swindle falls two spots to 5th in the world.

Takahiro Omori climbs one spot to 6th.

David Walker, who finished 20th at Harris and now leads the Bassmaster Tour points, climbs seven spots to 7th in the world.

Kelly Jordon, Alton Jones and Brent Chapman remain in 8th, 9th and 10th place.

A 6th at the Harris Chain helps Aaron Martens climb eight spots into 11th.

With two below-100th-place finishes in a row, Mark Davis drops to 12th in the world.

Harris Chain winner Peter Thliveros jumps eight places to 18th.

Florida pros Terry Scroggins and Shaw Grigsby Jr. move up 10 and 11 places respectively, and are now ranked 21st and 22nd in the world.

Another Florida pro, Jim Bitter, who finished 2nd at the Harris Chain moves up 12 spots to 25th.

Missouri's Brian Snowden continues to fish well. A 14th at the Harris Chain helps him jump 14 places to 27th in the world.

Gary Klein has had two so-so finishes, which have helped knock him down to 28th in the world.
