Jordon Jumps Up To 5th

The big story at last week’s Okeechobee FLW Tour event was Kelly Jordon’s win. It was sweet for Jordon for several reasons. It was his first FLW Tour win, and it came after his terrible finish to last year’s FLW Tour season, when he finished 162th, 195th and 73rd in the last three events.

The win also helps him jump up five places in the State Farm-BassFan World Rankings, from 10th to 5th. Shades of last year, when he became the first angler to knock Kevin VanDam out of the No. 1 spot, but Jordon will have to continue to finish high to offset those three uncharacteristically bad finishes from 2004.

Mark Davis, the only other angler to knock VanDam out of No. 1, does it again this week even though neither he nor VanDam fished last week. Because of the rankings’ 2-year rolling average, all anglers drop finishes from 2 years ago and all the points are recalculated. Davis dropped a 59th and 61st from the Harris Chain and Okeechobee Bassmasters 2 years ago. VanDam dropped a 47th and 53rd, but still has an 84th from the Okeechobee FLW that year, whereas Davis doesn’t because he didn’t fish that tour. Davis’ next finish is a 34th at Seminole. All of that apparently is enough for Davis to leapfrog VanDam again (VanDam has never been ranked lower than 2nd in the world).

Other notable movement includes:

Greg Hackney finished 66th at the Okeechobee FLW, but gets back up to 3rd in the world. He dropped a 12th-place finish from 2 years ago, so his jump is likely the result of a “lag effect” of his good finishes from last year. The effect, which works both ways, is due to the 2-year rolling average and the curve the rankings formula is based on.

Dean Rojas finished 3rd at Okeechobee and jumps up seven spots, returning him to the Top 10 in 6th.

Alton Jones finished 126th at Okeechobee and falls four places to 8th.

Gerald Swindle, who didn’t fish at Okeechobee, also falls four places to 9th.

Mark Kile, who is not fishing either tour this year, gains one place and is in 10th. At some point he will begin to fall in the rankings and will continue to fall.

A 30th-place finish at Okeechobee helps Zell Rowland move up from 17th to 11th.

A 146th at Okeechobee helps Takahiro Omori fall seven places to 14th in the world.

Dave Lefebre jumps 15 places to 37th after a 26th at Okeechobee.

Michigan’s Chad Grigsby, who finished 9th at Okeechobee, has the biggest jump this week: 43 places, from 115th to 72nd.

After finishing 199th, Dion Hibdon has the biggest fall: 71st to 119th (48 places).
