Access to Valco Ponds, a popular fishing spot in Pueblo, will be closed for approximately three months beginning Monday, Nov 22.

“The parking lot at the Valco Ponds State Wildlife Area will be closed until the end of January due to a major stream improvement project along the Arkansas River,” said Ron Zagar, a property technician with the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW).

Valco Ponds are located off Colorado Highway 96 along a section of the Arkansas River below the Pueblo Reservoir dam. Access to both the ponds and the river will be affected.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause,” said Zagar, “but the short term sacrifice will lead to long term benefits for anglers.”

For additional information about the closure, contact the Pueblo DOW office at 719-561-5300.
