Courtesy Dock Planned for Hawks Nest Lake
October 20, 2004
The Division of Natural Resources is planning to construct a courtesy dock at Hawks Nest Lake, according to Ed Hamrick, Director. Wildlife Resources Section and State Park staffs are working to develop the physically challenged accessible dock, said Hamrick.
The dock will be constructed adjacent to the existing boat ramp at Hawks Nest Lake and, when completed, will provide anglers and boaters easier access to their boats. Construction is planned to begin this fall.
This project has been a priority for the Fayette County legislative delegation and, thanks to the hard work and determination of Senator Shirley Love and Delegate David Perry, this facility will be a reality for their constituents and others who visit the lake, Hamrick said.
Boaters and anglers, especially those involved in the many sports fishing clubs and tournaments held at the lake, have been providing economic support for the area for many years, and were glad to be able to provide the type of facility they deserve, said Senator Shirley Love, D-Fayette.
This new boat dock will not only enhance the outdoors experience of local boaters and anglers, but also will add to the attractions already available at Hawks Nest State Park and the entire New River Gorge National Recreation Area, said Delegate David Perry, D-Fayette.
