Indian River Marina Will Keep Boat Ramp Open Part Time During Winter Construction

Sept 22, 2004

At the urging of boaters, Delaware Seashore State Park’s Indian River Marina boat ramp will be accessible on weekends and as construction work allows during Phase II of the four-year, $14 million redevelopment project. It was previously announced that the ramp would be closed from
Oct. 25 until next April.

“We’ve been working with our contractors and they say it will be possible for boaters to safely use the ramp on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and maybe even at times during the rest of the week,” said Indian River Marina Manager Gary King. “To be on the safe side, boaters should check with the marina before making their plans.”

“Completing the dredging of the basin, replacing the rest of the floating docks and finishing other construction projects during the off-season have to the top priority, but we want to keep our customers as happy as possible,” King said.

Marina staff can be reached at 302-227-3071.

Phase Two includes replacement of 162 boat slips; dredging half of the basin; construction of dry stack storage with parking lot, restrooms and staging docks; and adding a floating fuel dock and charter boat parking.

Phase One, which was completed in time for the 2004 boating season, included replacement of the first half of the floating docks, dredging of half of the basin, bulkhead replacement and construction of 12 year-round cottages.
