BassFan Hires New Managing Editor

November 1 , 2005

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Today BassFan LLC announced that John Johnson is the company's new managing editor. Johnson comes from northern California's Chico Enterprise-Record newspaper, where he was sports editor.

Johnson has 18 years of sports journalism experience, including stints as sports editor at two other California daily newspapers, and has won awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors and other organizations. He's covered conventional sports at every level, from high school to the World Series, NFL playoffs and golf's U.S. Open.

"I'm happy to be joining BassFan because of the new professional challenges it presents," Johnson said. "Pro bass fishing is growing rapidly and changing every day, and there might never be a more exciting time to be involved with coverage of the sport. I have no idea what the pro bass fishing landscape will look like 10 years from now, but I'm excited about the opportunity to chronicle its evolution."

He added: "I've made it a mission for the rest of my life to do as much as I can to promote the hunting and fishing lifestyle, and resource conservation. Along those lines, I'm very happy to join BassFan. They have a great thing going, and I look forward to trying to help make it even better."

A lifelong bass fisherman and outdoorsman, Johnson lists Clear Lake, the California Delta and Lake Shasta, "in that order," as his favorite large bass fisheries. He's also a big-time bird-hunter and competitive shotgunner.

BassFan editor-in-chief Jon Storm said: "It took over 6 months to complete our search for a managing editor, and we're confident that John will step in and begin working at an extremely high level on BassFan.com and other BassFan initiatives. We couldn't be happier with our decision."
